FD Interest Rates 2026: SBI, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and Post Office

Before you calculate, check what the big banks are actually paying right now. These are the rates for deposits below Rs 3 crore, updated on 28 October 2026. Senior citizens normally get 0.50% extra on bank FDs. Post Office rates are fixed by the government and stay the same for everyone.

Rates keep changing. After the RBI repo rate increase in October 2026, many banks are revising their FD rates one by one. Always confirm the final rate on the bank’s official website or branch before booking the FD.

FD Calculator SBI: State Bank of India FD Calculator

SBI is the biggest bank in India, so most people search for the FD calculator State Bank of India first. SBI currently pays up to 6.45% per year to general customers. Its special 444 days FD, called Amrit Vrishti, also gives 6.45%, and senior citizens get 6.95% on it. The minimum amount to open an SBI FD is Rs 1,000.

Example: if you deposit Rs 1,00,000 in the SBI 444 days FD at 6.45% with quarterly compounding, you get about Rs 1,08,094 on maturity. That is Rs 8,094 interest without any risk. In the calculator above, tap the SBI button, set the tenure to 444 days and try your own amount.

FD Calculator HDFC Bank

The FD calculator for HDFC works the same way. HDFC Bank currently offers up to 6.50% per year, and its 3 year rate of 6.45% is among the better rates from big private banks. Senior citizens get 0.50% extra, which takes many tenures close to 7%.

Example: Rs 5,00,000 deposited in HDFC Bank for 3 years at 6.45%, compounded quarterly, grows to about Rs 6,05,809. The interest part alone is Rs 1,05,809. Select HDFC Bank in the calculator and change the amount to compare 1, 3 and 5 year results side by side.

ICICI Bank FD Calculator

ICICI Bank currently has the highest rate among the four big banks on longer tenures. Its 5 year FD pays 6.60% per year to general customers, and the 5 year tax saver FD also falls in the same slab, so it can save tax under Section 80C along with giving returns.

Example: Rs 2,00,000 in an ICICI Bank FD for 5 years at 6.60%, compounded quarterly, becomes about Rs 2,77,445 at maturity. That is Rs 77,445 of pure interest. Use the ICICI Bank preset above and tick the senior citizen box if the FD is for your parents, because the extra 0.50% makes a clear difference over 5 years.

FD Calculator Axis Bank

Axis Bank keeps its rate card simple. Right now it pays 6.50% per year on 3 year and 5 year FDs, and 6.25% on a 1 year FD. Senior citizens get 0.50% extra on all tenures.

Example: a 1 year Axis Bank FD of Rs 1,00,000 at 6.25%, compounded quarterly, matures at about Rs 1,06,398. If the same FD is in a senior citizen’s name, the rate becomes 6.75% and the maturity value goes up further. Try both options in the FD calculator Axis preset to see the exact gap.

Post Office FD Calculator (Time Deposit)

The Post FD calculator is for the Post Office Time Deposit, which is a government backed fixed deposit. Its rates are higher than most big banks right now: 6.90% for 1 year, 7.00% for 2 years, 7.10% for 3 years and 7.50% for 5 years. Interest is compounded quarterly, and the 5 year deposit also qualifies for tax saving under Section 80C.

Example: Rs 1,00,000 in a 5 year Post Office Time Deposit at 7.50% grows to about Rs 1,44,995. That is Rs 44,995 interest, fully backed by the Government of India. There is no extra rate for senior citizens here, but the base rate itself is already higher than bank FDs.

FD Calculator Monthly Interest: How Much Will You Get Every Month?

Many people, especially retired persons, do not want the money locked till maturity. They want a fixed amount in the account every month. For them the monthly payout FD is the right option. In this FD the interest does not compound. The bank pays it out every month using simple interest, and your full principal comes back at the end.

The monthly interest formula is simple: deposit amount multiplied by the rate, divided by 1200. At a 6.50% rate, the FD calculator monthly interest figures look like this:

Deposit AmountMonthly Interest at 6.50%Yearly Interest
Rs 1,00,000Rs 542Rs 6,500
Rs 5,00,000Rs 2,708Rs 32,500
Rs 10,00,000Rs 5,417Rs 65,000
Rs 20,00,000Rs 10,833Rs 1,30,000

To check your own figure, choose Monthly Payout in the FD Type option of the calculator above. Remember, monthly payout gives a little less total return than a cumulative FD, because the interest you take out every month stops earning further interest.

FD Calculator 444 Days and Other Special Tenure FDs

These days banks are launching special FDs of odd tenures like 444 days, 555 days and 501 days, with slightly better rates than regular FDs of the same length. The SBI Amrit Vrishti 444 days FD at 6.45% is the most searched one. Punjab National Bank also offers 6.60% on its 444 days FD, and Bank of Baroda runs a 444 days scheme at 6.45%.

A normal calculator that only takes years cannot handle these schemes. That is why this calculator accepts tenure in days also. Tap the 444 Days chip, keep the rate of the scheme you are checking, and you will get the exact maturity value for that special FD.

FD Interest Rate Calculator: The Formula Behind It

Every FD interest rate calculator, including this one, uses the compound interest formula that banks follow:

A = P x (1 + r/n) ^ (n x t)

Here A is the maturity amount, P is the amount you deposit, r is the yearly interest rate, n is how many times interest is compounded in a year (4 for quarterly, which most Indian banks use), and t is the time in years. For monthly payout FDs, banks use simple interest instead: Interest = P x r x t / 100.

One thing worth knowing: the same headline rate gives slightly different results in different banks because compounding differs. Quarterly compounding is standard in India. If a bank compounds yearly, the same 6.50% will give you a little less money at the end.

How to Use This Fixed Deposit Calculator

Step 1: Tap your bank’s name at the top. The latest rate for your tenure gets filled on its own, or type any rate manually.

Step 2: Enter the amount you plan to deposit and set the tenure in years, months or days.

Step 3: Choose cumulative FD if you want the money at maturity, or monthly payout if you want interest every month.

Step 4: If the FD is for a senior citizen, tick the checkbox to add the extra 0.50% rate.

Step 5: Press Calculate. You will see the maturity amount, total interest, the rate applied and a year by year growth table.

Senior Citizen FD Rates: The Extra 0.50% Matters

Almost every bank pays senior citizens 0.50% extra on FDs. On a small deposit this looks minor, but on Rs 10 lakh kept for 5 years, the extra half percent adds roughly Rs 28,000 more interest. So if your parents are investing their retirement money, always book the FD in the senior citizen category and confirm the extra rate is applied before signing. Post Office Time Deposit is the one exception in this list, as it pays the same rate to everyone.

Types of Fixed Deposit You Should Know

Not every fixed deposit works the same way. The common types are: a cumulative FD, where interest keeps adding to your deposit and you get everything at maturity; a non-cumulative FD, where interest is paid out monthly, quarterly or yearly as income; a tax saver FD, which is locked for 5 years and gives Section 80C tax benefit up to Rs 1.5 lakh; a senior citizen FD, which pays extra interest to depositors above 60; and a flexi or sweep-in FD, which is linked to your savings account and moves extra money into the deposit automatically. This calculator handles the first three types directly, because the maths of cumulative and monthly payout covers almost every fixed deposit sold in India.

FD or RD: Which One Should You Pick?

People searching for an FD calculator often also look at the RD calculator. The difference is simple. In an FD you deposit one lump sum at the start. In an RD you deposit a fixed amount every month. If you already have money in hand, FD gives better results because the full amount earns interest from day one. If you are building savings from a monthly salary, RD is the practical route. Rates of both are almost the same in most banks.

Disclaimer: This FD calculator gives estimates based on the rate you enter and standard compounding. The final maturity value is decided by your bank at the time of booking, and rates change from time to time, so confirm the live rate with the bank before investing. FD interest is taxable as per your income slab. The bank deducts TDS if the interest in a financial year crosses Rs 50,000 (Rs 1,00,000 for senior citizens). Frequently Asked Questions

What is an FD calculator?

An FD calculator is a free online tool that tells you the maturity amount and total interest of a fixed deposit before you invest. You enter the deposit amount, interest rate and time period, and it applies the compound interest formula used by banks to show the exact result instantly.

What is the SBI FD interest rate in 2026?

SBI currently offers up to 6.45% per year to general customers, with 6.25% on a 1 year FD. Senior citizens get 0.50% extra. The special SBI Amrit Vrishti FD of 444 days also gives 6.45% to general customers and 6.95% to senior citizens. Rates are as of 28 October 2026 and can change.

How much monthly interest will I get on a Rs 1 lakh FD?

At a 6.50% rate, a Rs 1 lakh monthly payout FD gives about Rs 542 per month. The amount depends on your bank’s rate. At 6.25% it is about Rs 521 per month, and at 7.50%, like the Post Office rate slab, it comes to about Rs 625 per month.

Which bank gives the highest FD rate among SBI, HDFC, ICICI and Axis?

Among these four big banks, ICICI Bank currently has the highest top rate at 6.60% per year on longer tenures, while HDFC Bank and Axis Bank go up to 6.50% and SBI up to 6.45%. The Post Office Time Deposit pays even higher, up to 7.50% for 5 years, because its rates are set by the government.

What is the 444 days FD scheme?

It is a special fixed deposit of exactly 444 days offered by banks like SBI (Amrit Vrishti), Punjab National Bank and Bank of Baroda. These schemes usually pay a slightly better rate than regular FDs of similar length. SBI offers 6.45% on 444 days, while PNB offers 6.60%. You can calculate it in this calculator by entering 444 in the days box.

Is FD interest taxable?

Yes. FD interest is added to your total income and taxed as per your income tax slab. The bank deducts TDS if your total FD interest in a financial year crosses Rs 50,000, or Rs 1,00,000 if you are a senior citizen. If your total income is below the taxable limit, you can submit Form 15G or 15H to avoid TDS.

What happens if I break my FD before maturity?

Banks allow premature withdrawal of a fixed deposit, but they cut a penalty, usually 0.50% to 1%, from the interest rate that was applicable for the period your money actually stayed. So you get interest only for the completed period, at a slightly lower rate. If you need money for a short time, taking a loan against the FD is often cheaper than breaking it.

Do senior citizens get extra interest on FD?

Yes, almost all banks give senior citizens 0.50% extra interest on fixed deposits. This applies in SBI, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank. The Post Office Time Deposit is an exception, as it pays the same interest rate to all depositors.
